This unique Museum, the oldest still running museum of Curaçao, is located in a beautiful monumental building dated from 1853. The old Military Hospital was given its new museum function by dr. Chris J.H. Engels together with his father-in-law Rudolf F.W. Boskaljon. Together with the community of Curaçao, which helped raise 80.000 guilders for the acquisition of the inventory, The Curaçao Museum could officially open its doors on March 7th of 1948. The collection of The Curaçao Museum is a combination of objects dated from the 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st century. Highlights of the museum are the various paintings of well-known local and international artists, Curaçao furniture of the 18th and 19th century, the cockpit of the SNIP, KLM’s first airplane to cross the ocean from Holland to Curaçao, the traditional Curaçao kitchen, the Carillon dating from 1951 and the beautiful sculptures located in the garden of the museum by Luis Brion, Emanuel Piar, Yubi Kirindongo, Hortence Brown, Phillipe Zanolino and others.
