Value Dutch Music export 158,8 million euro in 2013

During 2013, the Dutch Music Export grew by 21% compared to 2012.
    11 February 2015

The export value is based on revenue from both live performances and the exploitation of Dutch music copyright  abroad, after expenses, but including salaries, profits and tax.

As expected, EDM and Dance Music put the most money into the till. A substantial part of this sum was made by various DJs and their performances abroad. In 2013, this was more than  € 110 million, which is 70% of the entire amount.

For many years, Germany was at the top of the list of Buma/Stemra -the collection society for music authors in The Netherlands. However, in 2013 Belgium took the lead with 17.8%, followed closely by Germany at 17%.  France comes next with 13.2% and Great Britain at 9.5%.  The United States is responsible for 5.8%, the same as in 2012. The total income from other countries for Dutch copyright holders amounted to € 16,966,000 in 2013. This is an increase of 12 % compared to 2012.

The lion’s share of all the performances abroad went to the DJs. However Jacco Gardner, André Rieu and Rapalje also performed a lot outside of the Netherlands.

The export value report was compiled by research agency Perfect & More and was presented on Saturday, January 17th at Eurosonic Noorderslag in Groningen.
