Indonesia: Capacity Building for Museum Professionals

As part of the 3-year programme on Capacity Building for Museum Professionals, the 4th of 6 trainings took place in Semarang from 15 to 18 July.

This time, the training focused on Audience Development and Museum Learning and was attended by 24 educators from various museums in Indonesia. The training was given by Ruben Smit (a senior lecturer of the Reinwardt Academy), Gundy van Dijk (Head of Education of the National Maritime Museum in the Netherlands) and Hafnidar (Head of the Tsunami Museum in Aceh).

Focus on visitor experience and learning

During the training the participants were asked to step into the shoes of the visitors and develop programmes for different visitor groups. The trainers also shared tips and tricks to make interactive programmes in order to enhance the museum experience of the visitor. The Capacity Building for Museum Professionals in Indonesia is a collaborative programme between the Netherlands Embassy in Jakarta, the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands, the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (Reinwardt Academy) and the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture.
